The Lord of the Rings is an epic high-fantasy novel written by English author J. R. R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien’s 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, The Lord of the Rings is the best-selling novel ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.

From the sweeping landscapes of Middle-earth to the timeless battles of good and evil, few features stand out as much as the pointed elegance of Lord of the Rings Elf Ears. These iconic ears became a defining part of the elves and dwarves in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies, helping bring Tolkien’s legendary characters to life on screen. Whether it’s Legolas’ graceful presence or the dwarves’ rugged looks, the careful use of prosthetics gave each race its own distinct identity. Exploring the different elves and dwarves of the films not only highlights their roles in the story, but also the artistry behind the ears that made them instantly recognizable.

Lord of the Rings Elf Ears

One of the things we get asked all the time, is what elf ears should I get for the LoTR character?

Legolas

Small Elf Ears or Half Elf Ears

Legolas
Legolas has subtly small pointed elf ears.

Galadriel (Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings)

Galadriel’s ears are actually pretty strangely shaped. We do not have an exact match for these ears, but many people have used both our Small Elf ears, or our Wood Elf Ears.

Here is an example from Lopti using our Wood Elf Ears:

Galadriel at peace

Elrond (Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings)

Elrond’s elf ears look a lot like our Half Elf Ears. Either those, or our Small elf ears.

Gimli (Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings)

“Certainty of death, small chance of success- what are we waiting for?”

We don’t see much of Gimli’s ears due to his long hair or because he is wearing a helmet. But we can only assume our Dwarf Ears would be the perfect fit.
